In a thoroughly unsurprising twist, men are mad online about a New Yorker short story in which the male character is revealed to be an asshole.
The story is question is Kristen Roupenian’s short story “Cat Person” from Monday’s magazine issue. It tells the story of a brief and unsettling fling between a young female college student and a 34-year-old man, and it struck a chord for many, many women.
But while women readers often felt an eerie connection to Roupenian’s 20-year-old protagonist, some male readers have, as expected, missed the point.
Case in point: “Men React to Cat Person,” a Twitter account devoted to dudes who are really mad about a New Yorker story. The account shares opinions from men who don’t get the story, don’t want to get the story, or think their opinion is of any interest to other people.
